In the Irish Channel neighborhood of New Orleans, on a summer day in 2010, the body of Freddie Benton Osby Jr. was discovered. The 33-year-old male had been fatally shot. His bloody remains were found beside a utility pole at the corner of Fourth and Annunciation streets on Monday, June 28, 2010. When police and medical crews arrived, he was already deceased.
In the wake of the discovery, the New Orleans Police Department began an investigation into the homicide.
Authorities released an image of a suspect in connection with the shooting, hoping to gather leads from the public. A poignant piece of stencil graffiti, featuring black letters and red paint mimicking blood spatter, appeared on a large metal power pole near the scene, bearing the message: “Somewhere in the city this blood is real.” Despite the police investigation and the public plea for information, details regarding any arrests or the identification of the suspect remain scarce in public records. The case is one of many unsolved gun violence incidents in the city.
