In the quiet community of Keithville, Louisiana, a dispute over a stolen video game system escalated into a tragic event that claimed the lives of three brothers. On the evening of August 17, 2010, Jeremiah Adams, 20, Jarquis Adams, 18, and their youngest brother, 13-year-old Jean 'Gene' Adams, were fatally shot. The three African American males were inside their Chevrolet Malibu, having just pulled into the driveway of a residence on Keatchie Marshall Road, when the shooting occurred.
The investigation swiftly led authorities to 33-year-old Marcus Donte' Reed of Shreveport. Reed was the boyfriend of the woman who lived at the residence where the shooting took place. Believing the Adams brothers had burglarized his girlfriend's home and stolen a video game system, Reed allegedly opened fire on their vehicle. While a burglary had occurred at the residence on the Monday prior, it had not been reported to the police, and investigators found no evidence linking the Adams brothers to the crime. An assault-style weapon was recovered at the scene.
Following the investigation by Caddo Parish Sheriff's detectives, Marcus Donte' Reed was arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder. He was subsequently booked into the Caddo Correctional Center. After legal proceedings, Reed was convicted for the murders of the three brothers and received the death penalty for his crimes. The Louisiana Supreme Court later reviewed the case and affirmed both the first-degree murder convictions and the death sentence imposed on Reed.
