In the quiet community of Keithville, Louisiana, a domestic evening turned fatal for Harold Addie, a 44-year-old Black/African American male. On the night of November 16, 2015, Addie was visiting a mobile home on Barron Road where his step-daughter resided with her boyfriend, 18-year-old Garrett David Morgan. An argument reportedly broke out between Morgan and Addie's 15-year-old nephew, which Addie overheard.
This initial conflict escalated into a direct and heated argument between
Addie and Morgan. The confrontation took a tragic turn when Morgan produced a firearm. He shot Harold Addie in the face, leading to his death at the scene. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Morgan fled the residence.
His freedom was short-lived, however, as he turned himself in to authorities a short while later near the intersection of Barron and Newson roads. The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office took him into custody. Garrett David Morgan was subsequently booked into the Caddo Correctional Center. He faced charges of second-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
