In the heart of New Orleans, a young man's life was tragically cut short in a dispute that spiraled into violence. Antonio Marlin Miller, a 21-year-old male, was fatally shot on Friday, January 20, 2012, outside of Mondo, a restaurant in the Lakeview neighborhood where he was employed. The incident, which unfolded in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue shortly before 3 p.m., stemmed from an ongoing conflict over the care of Miller's child.
The conflict reached a devastating climax when
Farrel Sampier, 44, the grandfather of Miller's child, confronted Miller at his workplace. Despite Miller being on duty at the time, an argument escalated, leading to Sampier allegedly shooting Miller multiple times. When police arrived at the scene, they found Miller lying on the ground with fatal gunshot wounds.
Following the shooting, the New Orleans Police Department identified Sampier as the primary suspect. Later that evening, at approximately 11 p.m., Sampier turned himself in to the authorities. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and booked into Central Lockup, where he was held on a $200,000 bond. At the time of his arrest, it was noted that Sampier had a criminal history that included three prior arrests on illegal firearms charges.
