Adam 'AJ' Joseph Brown, a 35-year-old male, was a radiant soul cherished by his family and friends. Born on July 26, 1989, in New Orleans, Louisiana, he was known for his warm demeanor and infectious smile. For seven years, he worked as a network technician for COX communications, a job he was performing on the day his life was tragically cut short. Prior to his work with COX, he was a server in the hospitality industry, where he connected with countless patrons.
AJ had a passion for dining, music, and was a talented singer and guitar player. Described as a person who prioritized the needs of others, he was always ready with a listening ear, a helping hand, or a comforting word.
On the afternoon of Monday, December 16, 2024, at approximately 12:19 p.m., the New Orleans Police Department responded to a call about an unresponsive person in the 8000 block of Dwyer Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered Adam Brown lying in the road next to his work truck, suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services transported him to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. Investigators determined that Brown was shot and killed during an attempted armed robbery while he was on the job.
The New Orleans Police Department's Homicide Section quickly began an investigation into the senseless killing. Through their efforts, detectives identified Jalil Williams, a Black male born on July 14, 1996, as the alleged perpetrator. An arrest warrant was issued for Williams on one count of second-degree murder.
In a coordinated effort, the NOPD's Violent Offenders Warrant Squad and the U.S. Marshals located and apprehended Jalil Williams on the morning of December 19, 2024. He was taken into custody without incident in the 1000 block of Loyola Avenue. Following his arrest, Williams was set to be booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center. The authorities have stated that all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
