Jerrel Oster, 39, a white woman from Metairie, Louisiana, was living an ordinary Wednesday when May 8, 2013 turned into the day her home became a crime scene. That morning, she spoke with her husband, Neil Oster, before he left for work. Hours later, when he returned around midday, the quiet inside the house felt wrong—until he found her slumped on the couch, bleeding from a wound to her head. He tried CPR, but when emergency crews arrived, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
