In the early morning hours of Thursday, May 30, 2013, the life of 19-year-old Angel Danielle Brooks, a young African-American mother, was tragically cut short. Just after midnight, officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, responded to a call of a possible shooting at the Palmer Apartments, a complex in the northern part of the city. Behind the run-down apartment buildings, in a dimly lit alleyway, they discovered Angel's body.
She had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Angel had only recently embarked on a new chapter in her life, having moved into an apartment of her own with her two young sons about a month prior to her death. She was a native of Baton Rouge, born on December 15, 1993. Her sudden and violent death left her family, including her parents and a sister, devastated and searching for answers. The community was left to wonder who would want to harm a young mother who was just beginning to build a life for her small family.
Despite the initial investigation and the passage of time, the case has grown cold. Law enforcement officials reported that there were no witnesses to the shooting and no immediate suspects were identified in the wake of the incident.
