In the late summer of 2013, a verbal altercation tragically escalated, leading to the death of 18-year-old Kino Harris. On the afternoon of Wednesday, August 28, 2013, in the 1900 block of Sparta Avenue in Baton Rouge, Harris was shot following a brief argument. Earlier in the day, words had been exchanged between Harris and the suspect, though they were not engaged in a physical fight at that time.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and Harris was transported to a local
hospital with two gunshot wounds, one to his side and another to his buttock. Despite the medical attention he received, Kino Harris succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead that same day. His death was ruled a homicide, prompting an investigation by the Baton Rouge Police Department.
The investigation into the shooting moved swiftly, and authorities identified a 16-year-old male as the suspected shooter. The juvenile was arrested and subsequently booked into the Juvenile Detention Center. He faced charges of second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon in connection with the death of Kino Harris. In the years following the incident, community memorials have mentioned an individual named Carlos Heard being charged with the murder.
