In a tragic incident near the Crescent City Connection bridge in New Orleans, 7-month-old male Deshawn Kinard and his 25-year-old father, Deshawn Butler, were shot and killed. The two were passengers in the back seat of a vehicle being driven by the infant's mother when another vehicle pulled alongside and opened fire. Deshawn Butler was pronounced dead at the scene, while his son, Deshawn Kinard, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries.
The driver and a front-seat passenger were unharmed in the attack.
Authorities believe the shooting was not a random act of violence but rather a targeted attack, with Deshawn Butler being the intended victim. The New Orleans Police Department suggested that the shooting was likely gang-related. At the time, they indicated a possible connection to a conflict between two local gangs. Law enforcement officials stated that Butler was a known member of the 'Fischer Fools' gang.
