The couple was found stabbed to death in their home, a crime that sent shockwaves through the close-knit town. Connie, who cleaned houses part-time, and Eddie, a well-known local painter who owned his own business, were described as beloved members of the community.
The investigation into their shocking deaths
soon zeroed in on two individuals: Dulce Maria Funez and her boyfriend, Armando Reyes Diaz. Funez had been an employee of the Halls' painting business. Authorities believe a dispute over a reduction in pay led Funez to be fired, which then escalated into a motive for the gruesome murders. Evidence suggested a violent struggle, with officials noting that Connie Hall had been stabbed nearly 40 times. Her husband's body was discovered next to his bed, his own firearm still in its holster.
Following the issuance of arrest warrants for two counts of first-degree murder for both suspects, an intense search began. Investigators believed Funez and Diaz were traveling together, possibly with a young boy, in a white Nissan Versa. Their trail, however, went cold for a significant period. A significant breakthrough in the case came in December of 2015 when Dulce Maria Funez was located and arrested in Germany in connection with an unrelated incident. After a lengthy extradition process, she was returned to Louisiana in June 2016 to face charges for the murders of Connie and Eddie Earl Hall. In July 2021, Funez was convicted on two counts of first-degree murder and is now facing a life sentence in prison. Her accomplice, Armando Reyes Diaz, also charged with two counts of first-degree murder, remains at large, and law enforcement continues to seek information regarding his whereabouts.
