In May of 2014, the community of Mansfield, Louisiana, was shaken by the tragic death of 39-year-old Gwen Cox Salley. A few days before her death, her estranged husband, Michael Salley, had been arrested after holding Gwen and their seven-year-old daughter at gunpoint and threatening to kill his wife. Despite the severity of these charges, he was released on a $50,000 bond.
