In the late summer of 2022, the community of Mansfield, Louisiana, was shaken by the tragic death of Jameshia 'Mookie' Adkins, a 28-year-old female. On the evening of August 29th, DeSoto Parish Sheriff's deputies responded to a call concerning shots fired at a residence on Darrow Road. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene.
Inside the home, law enforcement found Jameshia Adkins and a man, later identified as 29-year-old Koderick Colbert, both of Mansfield.
Both individuals had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The initial investigation by the Sheriff's Office pointed towards a murder-suicide.
Detectives concluded that Koderick Colbert fatally shot Jameshia Adkins before turning the weapon on himself, resulting in his own death. Because the sole suspect in Adkins' death was also deceased, no arrests were made in connection with the incident. The case was therefore closed as a murder-suicide, leaving a community to mourn the loss of a young life cut short by violence.
