In the pre-dawn hours of January 27, 2022, 48-year-old Charlene 'CeeCee' Jones was preparing to leave for her job at Walmart. As she sat in her car in the parking lot of the Gatehouse Apartments in Metairie, Louisiana, her life was tragically cut short in a hail of gunfire. The grandmother was shot multiple times and was found deceased at the scene by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
The initial investigation left police with few leads, as family and friends reported that Jones had no known enemies.
The story that unfolded, however, revealed a tale of jealousy and a sinister plot. Investigators soon turned their attention to Monica Every, the 49-year-old ex-girlfriend of Jones's new boyfriend. The relationship between Jones's boyfriend and Every had ended the previous Christmas, and Every had reportedly been harassing the new couple. This harassment escalated to a murder-for-hire plot, in which Every solicited the help of 26-year-old Deja Walls and a hitman named Louis Gordon.
The investigation revealed that Every had engaged in a campaign of harassment against Jones, which included making a false police report against her. Authorities believe this was an attempt to get Jones into legal trouble. Surveillance footage from the apartment complex identified Walls' vehicle as the getaway car on the morning of the murder. Further investigation uncovered that Every had hired Gordon to kill Jones.
Following the investigation, Monica Every and Deja Walls were arrested and charged with second-degree murder and solicitation for murder. Louis Gordon was later apprehended in Florida and also faced charges of second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. In a court of law, Monica Every was found guilty of being a principal to second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit second-degree murder, and solicitation for second-degree murder. The hired gunman, Louis Gordon, was convicted of second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit second-degree murder, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and obstruction of justice. Both Every and Gordon were sentenced to life in prison.
