In the late hours of a Wednesday evening, the quiet of the 200 block of Joe Parquet Circle in Laplace, Louisiana, was shattered by the sound of a gunshot. On June 11, 2014, deputies from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a call and discovered the unresponsive body of Milton “Ton” Clofer Jr. The 49-year-old African American man had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
