Jare Stevenson, a 28-year-old African American male, was killed on the afternoon of June 23, 2015, in Bogalusa, Louisiana. His death was the result of a gunshot wound to the back of the head, an act that transformed the typically quiet City Limits Road into a large crime scene. Stevenson was not alone; he was the victim of a double homicide alongside Shannen Hudson, a 31-year-old man from Baton Rouge also known as the rapper Young Ready.
The two men were discovered deceased inside a car.
A father of two boys and a young daughter, Stevenson had been visiting with friends in a housing project in Bogalusa just a quarter of an hour before the fatal shooting occurred. The investigation into the killings has stretched from Bogalusa to Baton Rouge, where both victims resided. Detectives have considered that drugs may have been a factor in the violent incident. A significant tip emerged from a neighbor who reported seeing a man running from the victims' rental car and getting into a green sedan shortly after the sound of gunshots.
Despite this lead and the efforts of the Bogalusa Police Department, the case has grown cold. Law enforcement officials have reviewed surveillance footage from the area and analyzed cell phone tower data related to individuals of interest, but these avenues have not yielded any substantial leads to move the investigation forward. The police chief has voiced frustration over the lack of information coming from the community, which has hampered the investigation. To date, no suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made in connection with the murders of Jare Stevenson and Shannen Hudson, leaving their families without closure as the case remains open and unsolved.
