In the fall of 2015, the life of 56-year-old Michael Wayne Henry, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in Shreveport, Louisiana. On the evening of October 16th, Henry was at his post as a security guard at Thrifty Liquor on Linwood Avenue, a job he undertook with a lifelong dedication to serving and protecting his community, a passion that had earlier led him to serve in the military and the Shreveport Police Department.
The night took a fatal turn when an armed assailant entered the store with the intent to rob it.
Just after 10 p.m., the robber, described as a Black male distinguished by a dark-hooded sweatshirt and peculiar pink gloves, confronted Henry. In the ensuing moments, a single shot was fired, striking Henry in the upper body. The suspect then fled the scene with an unknown sum of money, leaving the dedicated security guard gravely wounded. Emergency services rushed Henry to University Health, but his injuries proved too severe, and he succumbed to them that night.
In the wake of the deadly shooting, the Shreveport Police Department launched an intensive investigation. Detectives diligently reviewed surveillance footage from the liquor store and explored the possibility that the perpetrator was connected to other armed robberies in the vicinity. Despite their efforts and public appeals for information, the man responsible for Michael Wayne Henry's murder has not been apprehended. The case remains an active and open investigation as authorities continue their search for the individual who ended the life of a beloved husband, father, and community protector.
