In the autumn of 2015, a fatal encounter in Monroe, Louisiana, claimed the life of 41-year-old Brandon Gene Albritton. The male victim was shot in the head on November 11, 2015, an event that would lead to his death a day later. His passing was officially recorded on November 12, 2015.
The shooting occurred on Filhiol Avenue, where Albritton was with an acquaintance. An individual approached them and asked for a ride. After being denied, the man lingered.
When Albritton returned to the vehicle, the man again asked for a ride. As Albritton turned away, the man drew a gun and shot him in the head. Albritton was transported to the hospital and placed on life support so his organs could be donated before he was pronounced dead.
An investigation into the homicide led to the indictment of a suspect on December 10, 2015, for one count of second-degree murder. The suspect entered a plea of not guilty on January 5, 2016.
A jury trial commenced on January 17, 2017. During the trial, witness testimony placed the suspect at the scene of the crime and identified him as the shooter. A forensic pathologist testified that the cause of Albritton's death was a gunshot wound to the head, with the bullet entering his right temple. The jury ultimately convicted the shooter in the death of Brandon Albritton. The conviction and sentence were later affirmed on appeal.
