On a spring afternoon in Monroe, Louisiana, a visit to see friends turned fatal for Kentarius Webb. On April 3, 2017, Webb was dropped off by his girlfriend at the Parkview Apartments. Shortly after her departure, she received a harrowing phone call informing her that Webb had been shot. The incident, which occurred at 1:57 p.m., was captured by surveillance cameras in the apartment complex.
The footage showed Chadarius Morehead leaning against a car in the parking lot as Webb approached
and greeted him. After a brief, seemingly agitated exchange of words, Morehead walked away from Webb, only to turn around and make a gesture. As Webb moved towards him, Morehead drew a weapon and fired. Morehead was later arrested and, on July 13, 2017, indicted for the second-degree murder of Kentarius Webb.
During the legal proceedings, Morehead's defense argued that the killing was justifiable. They claimed that Webb had a history of threatening and bullying Morehead and his family over several years, sometimes brandishing a weapon. On the day of the shooting, the defense maintained that Webb had again threatened and insulted Morehead. Despite these claims, a unanimous jury convicted Chadarius Morehead of second-degree murder. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison for the killing of Kentarius Webb.
