In the early moments of an April morning in Shreveport, Louisiana, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet, tragically ending the life of 55-year-old Gina Foster. On April 22, 2016, Foster and her grandson, Syborio Foster, were standing outside a residence in the 4100 block of Martha Street when a vehicle approached. Multiple rounds were fired from the dark-colored, four-door sedan, striking both individuals.
When emergency responders arrived just after midnight, they found Gina Foster
with gunshot wounds to her upper body. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 25-year-old grandson had also been shot in the upper body, but his injuries were not life-threatening, and he was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The investigation into the deadly shooting quickly led authorities to a suspect. Shreveport Police identified 35-year-old Carlos Franklin as the individual responsible for the drive-by shooting. Warrants were issued for his arrest, and within hours, Franklin surrendered to the police. He was subsequently charged with one count of second-degree murder for the death of Gina Foster and one count of attempted second-degree murder for the wounding of her grandson.
