In the summer of 2016, a young man's life was cut tragically short in a violent episode that unfolded across New Orleans. Felix Barron, a 21-year-old male, was found with a fatal gunshot wound on August 4, 2016, along the South I-10 Service Road. His death was not an isolated incident but rather the grim culmination of a series of shootings that claimed another life and left a third man wounded.
The chain of events began earlier that day at a residence in the 7100 block of West Laverne
Street in New Orleans East. Barron, accompanied by a 38-year-old man, had gone to the home of Sedrick Gilbert, a 46-year-old man, with the intention of purchasing a truck. What transpired next was a brutal ambush. According to the surviving victim, Gilbert and another man opened fire on them, striking the 38-year-old multiple times.
The harrowing ordeal continued as the injured man was discovered in a vehicle on Lakeshore Drive and Pratt Drive around 2 a.m. Five hours later, the body of Felix Barron was located. The violence also claimed the life of 34-year-old Joseph Randolph, who was dropped off at University Medical Center with a gunshot wound and later died. Detectives believe Randolph was also present at the West Laverne Street address.
In the immediate aftermath, the surviving victim provided a crucial lead to investigators, identifying the assailants by stating, 'Sedrick and Keisha did it.' He later identified Gilbert in a police lineup. This information led to the swift arrest of Sedrick Gilbert and his accomplice, 38-year-old Keisha Edwards. Both were booked in connection with the murder of Felix Barron and the shooting of the surviving victim.
