On an August evening in 2016, a 42-year-old Hispanic man named Armando Salgado tragically lost his life in New Orleans during a transaction that began with an online advertisement. He had arranged to sell a PlayStation 4 gaming console and agreed to meet two prospective buyers. The two individuals, both 18-year-old males, joined Salgado in his car.
What started as a simple sale took a dark turn when the supposed buyers directed Salgado to a different location under the guise of getting
money for the purchase. Upon their arrival, one of the teens brandished a firearm and demanded Salgado's possessions. A struggle ensued as Salgado attempted to defend himself and disarm the attacker. In the altercation, he was shot at close range, sustaining fatal injuries. A woman who was with Salgado at the time was also assaulted during the incident but survived.
The two assailants fled the scene with stolen items. However, in their haste, one of the suspects left behind a crucial piece of evidence: his wallet, containing his identification. This discovery by investigators led to the swift apprehension of both individuals. They were subsequently charged with multiple serious offenses, including aggravated murder and aggravated robbery, bringing a rapid development to an otherwise tragic event.
