In the small town of Jennings, Louisiana, a respected community member, 60-year-old Warren Gary, a male, met a tragic end on November 15, 2016. A lifelong resident, he had dedicated over two decades of his life to serving his community as a deputy with the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff's office before retiring as a city inspector. Beyond his professional life, he was a man of faith, serving as a deacon at the Christian Family Fellowship Church of Christ.
The circumstances of his death sent a
shockwave through the community, not only because of the loss of a well-regarded figure but also because of the deeply disturbing nature of the crime. Warren Gary was shot and killed while he slept in the comfort of his own home. The investigation into his murder swiftly uncovered a familial connection that left many stunned.
The primary suspect identified by law enforcement was none other than his own 17-year-old grandson, Parker Gary. Investigators determined that the motive for this tragic act was rooted in theft. Just days prior to the murder, Parker Gary had burglarized his grandfather's home, stealing numerous firearms and vandalizing the property. This initial crime escalated to the fatal shooting of his grandfather.
Following the investigation, Parker Gary was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He was subsequently held in the parish jail without bond. Ultimately, Parker Gary pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him. For the murder of his grandfather, he was sentenced to 40 years in prison, with a total sentence of 55 years. Another teenager, 17-year-old Ryan Cole, a friend of Parker's, was also implicated in the initial burglary. While already in custody in connection with the burglary and murder of Warren Gary, both Parker Gary and Ryan Cole faced first-degree murder charges in the death of another individual, Dedrick Gant. Ryan Cole later pleaded guilty to manslaughter in Gant's death and received a 26-year prison sentence.
