In the evening hours of December 23, 2016, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 43-year-old Charles Porter was found lying in the road in the 500 block of Education Street. He had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. Known to many of his friends as 'Chicago,' Mr. Porter was a native and resident of the city.
The investigation into the homicide led authorities to identify a suspect in the case.
An arrest was made, and 33-year-old Johnny Matthews was taken into custody by the Baton Rouge Police Department.
Following his arrest, Matthews was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He faced multiple charges in connection with the death of Charles Porter, including second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
