Jerrid Michael Davis Jr., a 22-year-old male, was fatally shot in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on January 24, 2017. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. in the 11800 block of Old Hammond Highway. Responding officers found Davis lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was transported to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Known to his loved ones as 'Lil Jerrid,' he was a beloved son, devoted father, brother, and friend.
At the time of his death, he was an aspiring rap artist and was also enrolled as a welding student at Baton Rouge Community College. His death left his family and community mourning the loss of a young life with promising potential.
In the days following the shooting, the Baton Rouge Police Department identified a suspect in connection with the homicide. Mervell Carter, who was 24 years old at the time, was arrested on the Thursday following the incident. Authorities announced that Carter would be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a charge of second-degree murder. The investigation suggested that the shooting stemmed from an argument between Carter and Davis.
