A tragic turn of events at a house party in Gonzales, Louisiana, resulted in the death of 25-year-old Jerrod Brown in the early morning hours of June 24, 2017. Brown, a former basketball standout at Terrebonne High School, was attending a large gathering on Superior Wood Avenue where many guests had arrived by a party bus from surrounding parishes.
The lively atmosphere of the party took a dark turn when an argument erupted between Brown and a female attendee.
The verbal altercation escalated when the woman's brother, 19-year-old Joshua Harris of Thibodaux, intervened. Harris reportedly produced two firearms and shot Brown multiple times. Following the shooting, Harris fled the scene.
Emergency services were called, and Brown was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries. An investigation was immediately launched by the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office. Their inquiries quickly led them to identify Joshua Harris as the primary suspect.
Later that same morning, at approximately 8 a.m., Harris was located at his home in Thibodaux and taken into custody by the Thibodaux Police Department. He was subsequently transferred to the Ascension Parish Jail. Harris faced charges of second-degree murder, illegal discharge of a weapon, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. It was also noted by authorities that Harris had a lengthy criminal history and was on probation at the time of the incident.
