Lebrandon Clarkson, 26, a Black man from Shreveport, Louisiana, was driving through north Shreveport before dawn on September 17, 2017, when the morning turned violent and sudden. Just after 5:45 a.m., police were dispatched to what first sounded like a major crash near the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Russell Road—power had gone out in the area after a car slammed into a utility pole hard enough to damage the pole and the vehicle.
