On the evening of Christmas Day in 2017, a resident of Monroe, Louisiana, D'Angelo Robinson, a 31-year-old African American male, was fatally shot. The incident occurred at approximately 11:15 p.m. at the Shadow Forest Apartments located on McKeen Place. Robinson, the owner of an auto body repair business in the community, sustained injuries that ultimately led to his death, casting a somber shadow over the holiday.
Following the shooting, the Monroe Police Department launched an
investigation that quickly led to a suspect. A 17-year-old male named Isaiah Jaylone Smart was identified and subsequently arrested in connection with the death of Robinson. During the course of the investigation, Smart, a resident of Richwood Road #2, confessed to the shooting.
As a result of his confession and the evidence gathered by law enforcement, Isaiah Jaylone Smart was charged with second-degree murder. He was then booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center to await further legal proceedings. The circumstances and motive that led to the fatal encounter on Christmas night remained part of the ongoing investigation by the Monroe Police Department.
