In the heart of New Orleans, a life was tragically cut short on a Sunday afternoon. Lawrence Keith 'Law' Varnado, a 29-year-old male, was gunned down on January 27, 2019, at the intersection of Diana and Verret streets. The incident unfolded around 12:48 p.m., when police responded to a call of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Varnado suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the immediate response, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the homicide quickly progressed. Within a day, detectives with the New Orleans Police Department's Homicide Unit identified a suspect. On January 28, 2019, Michael Roberts Jr. was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. Roberts, born in February of 1992, was subsequently booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center. He faced a charge of second-degree murder in the death of Lawrence Varnado.
