In the summer of 2019, the life of 29-year-old LeeJerryius Traveone Baines, a male from Shreveport, Louisiana, was tragically cut short. On the night of June 9th, a dispute that began inside the Royalty Cigar and Hookah Lounge on Texas Street spilled out onto the sidewalk, escalating into gunfire. Baines was one of three people struck by bullets in the ensuing chaos. He was rushed to Ochsner LSU Health hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
A second victim, 22-year-old Chasmine Walters, also died as a result of the shooting, while a third individual sustained serious injuries.
The investigation into the double homicide led authorities to a security guard who was working at the lounge that evening. Trevarious Winslow, 27, from Natchitoches, was identified as the individual responsible for the deaths of Baines and Walters. Evidence presented during the legal proceedings revealed that Winslow had engaged in an exchange of gunfire with a group of people at the club. Following the incident, he attempted to conceal the firearm he used, which was later discovered to be covered in blood containing his DNA.
In January 2023, a Caddo Parish jury unanimously found Trevarious Winslow guilty on two counts of manslaughter for the deaths of Lee'Jerryius Baines and Chasmine Walters. The trial took place in District Judge Donald E. Hathaway Jr.'s court. For his role in the fatal shooting, Winslow faced a sentence of up to 40 years of hard labor for each count.
