A promising young life was tragically cut short on the evening of June 19, 2019, when 19-year-old Keyon Clark was shot and killed. The incident occurred at the Frank Lemon Playground in the Shrewsbury area of Metairie, a suburb of New Orleans, Louisiana. Clark, a former standout wide receiver for George Washington Carver High School, was at the playground with his older brother, Darrell 'D.J.'

The brothers were reportedly exercising and playing basketball, a routine activity for them, when gunfire erupted around 9:20 p.m. Keyon Clark was found by Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office deputies at the scene and was pronounced dead. His brother, D.J. Clark, was also struck by the gunfire and was subsequently hospitalized with injuries. A third individual who was with the brothers was also wounded in the shooting. Family members reported that D.J. Clark's young son was present at the playground during the attack but was thankfully unharmed.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, investigators from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office began working to determine a motive and identify who was responsible for the violence that claimed a young man's life and injured two others.
