In the early hours of a Wednesday morning in New Orleans, the life of Josef Christopher Brown was tragically cut short. On July 24, 2019, the 28-year-old male was in his home in the 3500 block of DeSaix Boulevard when an act of violence shattered the quiet neighborhood. Two unidentified men, their faces obscured by ski masks, forcibly entered his residence at approximately 12:30 a.m.
and fatally shot him.
The sudden and violent nature of his death left his family and friends in profound grief. Brown was remembered as a beloved son to Gabe Halley and Debra Brown-Cornett, and a cherished brother to his siblings, Zirece and Kimberly Fraizer, Cedric Brown, Kenneth and Gabrielle Halley, and Taciana Negret. He was also a doting godfather to two children and a treasured member of a large extended family. Services to honor his memory were held the following week at Gentilly Baptist Church, where those who knew and loved him gathered to pay their final respects.
The investigation into Josef Brown's murder remains ongoing. The perpetrators, described only as two men in ski masks, fled the scene after the shooting and have not been publicly identified.
