In the late summer of 2019, the life of 17-year-old Rontrell Henry, a student at McDonogh 35 High School, was tragically cut short. On the evening of Tuesday, August 6th, Henry was the victim of a fatal shooting in New Orleans East. The incident, which also left another teenager wounded, unfolded in the 8500 block of the North I-10 Service Road.
Initial reports from the New Orleans Police Department indicated that the shooting occurred just before 9:30 p.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered two male teenagers suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were rushed to a local hospital for medical attention.
Sadly, Rontrell Henry succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office later confirmed that a gunshot wound was the cause of his death. Information regarding the condition of the second victim was not made widely available. At the time of the incident, investigators had not publicly identified any suspects or a possible motive for the shooting.
