On what was supposed to be a routine night working as an Uber driver, 35-year-old Andrew Stiller’s life was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting on February 20, 2023, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The incident unfolded on the Interstate 10 Service Road near Bundy Road in New Orleans East, just days before he and his wife were to celebrate their first wedding anniversary.
Stiller, a mental health therapist who specialized in counseling children, was also a musician and comedian who
sometimes drove for Uber. On that Lundi Gras evening, he was transporting a passenger, 21-year-old Johnell Hampton, when shots were fired into his vehicle. Both Stiller and Hampton were struck by the gunfire and died at the scene. The force of the shooting caused Stiller’s SUV to crash through a fence and onto Interstate 10, where it collided with another car, injuring two other individuals. Another woman in a separate car on the interstate was also wounded by the gunfire.
The investigation into the double homicide led New Orleans police to identify 33-year-old Tyree Quinn as the primary suspect. Quinn, who had a lengthy criminal history and was out on an ankle monitor at the time of the shooting, was arrested in March 2023 and charged with murder and attempted murder. Police believe that Hampton, Stiller's passenger, was the intended target of the shooting.
In April 2025, a jury found Tyree Quinn guilty of the murders of Andrew Stiller and Johnell Hampton, as well as the death of Kimberly Bernett Hines, the woman who was shot in the other vehicle and died from her injuries months later. Following his conviction, Quinn faces a mandatory life sentence.
