In a tragic turn of events on a Saturday afternoon, 32-year-old Walter Wilson lost his life in a shooting at the Gretna Park Apartments on Gretna Boulevard. On November 2, 2019, at approximately 3:20 p.m., officers responded to a call of a shooting and found Wilson, a resident of the complex, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the homicide quickly pointed to two brothers, Willie Slater, 37, and Harold Slater, 33.
Eyewitness statements were crucial in identifying the Slaters as the alleged shooters. Detectives located and arrested the brothers within the same apartment complex. Following their arrest, the two reportedly confessed to the killing and led the police to the weapon believed to have been used, a black semi-automatic. 40 caliber handgun.
Authorities with the Gretna Police Department stated that the shooting was the culmination of an ongoing dispute between the Slater brothers and Wilson.
