by the sound of gunfire, a brutal intrusion into what should have been a place of safety and comfort.
The events leading to this fatal encounter were rooted in a troubled past. The perpetrator was identified as Donovan Lafrance, the 30-year-old ex-boyfriend of Harvey's girlfriend. Lafrance, a resident of Gretna, had a history of abusive behavior towards his ex-girlfriend, with whom he had been in a relationship for about five years before she ended it in 2021 due to his physical violence. Despite the breakup, a connection remained, and just days before the shooting, Lafrance had seen his ex-girlfriend with Harvey.
