In the early hours of March 4, 2020, a violent encounter in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, claimed the life of 24-year-old Keandre Wolf, a male from nearby Iberville. The incident unfolded around 2:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of Pear Street, where police responded to reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene. Another man, identified as Joshua Johnson, was found lying in the driveway of a residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Inside the home, authorities found Wolf, who had also been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation into the double shooting pointed towards a drug-related motive, though suspects were not immediately identified. Johnson, who survived his injuries, told detectives that someone had entered the apartment and robbed them. As the Baton Rouge Police Department delved deeper into the case, two names emerged as potential suspects: David Franklin and Ahmed Muhammed. However, the investigation took a dark turn when Muhammed himself was murdered just a day after the shooting, on March 5, 2020.
A significant breakthrough in the case came on March 18, 2020, with the arrest of 26-year-old David Franklin. Acting on evidence gathered during their investigation, detectives obtained a search warrant for a residence where they located Franklin. The search yielded a. 40 caliber pistol that matched the evidence collected from the scene of Wolf's murder. Further evidence was reportedly found on a phone belonging to Franklin's girlfriend. Franklin was subsequently booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He faced a slew of charges, including one count of first-degree murder for the death of Keandre Wolf, as well as charges for possession of a firearm by a felon, possession with intent to distribute, and illegal carrying of weapons.
