In the early morning hours of June 29, 2020, the life of 26-year-old Jeremy Sincere, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Police were dispatched to a residential area in the 10100 block of Avenue E around 1:50 a.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Mr. Sincere and another man, 40-year-old Burnell Williams, inside a vehicle, both suffering from gunshot wounds.
Neither man survived their injuries, and both were pronounced dead at the scene. The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Office later confirmed that both Mr. Sincere and Mr. Williams died from gunshot wounds.
A native of New Orleans who had become a resident of Baton Rouge, Jeremy Sincere was a father to three children: Journee, Aniyah, and Jeranica Thronton. His death prompted an immediate and intensive investigation by the Baton Rouge Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit. Detectives began piecing together the events that led to the fatal shooting, urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in their efforts to find those responsible for this double homicide.
The investigation led to a significant breakthrough on August 5, 2020, when Baton Rouge Police announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with the murders of Jeremy Sincere and Burnell Williams. Thirty-seven-year-old Demarcus Jones was taken into custody and subsequently booked on charges of first-degree murder and multiple drug offenses. The arrest marked a crucial development in the case, bringing a sense of hope for justice to the families and friends of the two victims whose lives were so violently taken.
