On a summer night in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the life of 40-year-old Burnell 'Dinky' Williams, an African American male, was tragically cut short. In the predawn hours of June 29, 2020, around 1:50 a.m., police were dispatched to the 10100 block of Avenue E following reports of a shooting. There, they discovered Williams and another man, 26-year-old Jeremy Sincere, inside a vehicle, both suffering from what would prove to be fatal gunshot wounds.
They were pronounced dead at the scene.
The double homicide prompted an investigation by the Baton Rouge Police Department. For over a month, detectives worked the case, seeking to bring justice for the two men whose lives were violently ended. Their efforts culminated in the identification of a primary suspect.
On August 5, 2020, a breakthrough in the case was announced with the arrest of 37-year-old Demarcus Jones. Jones was apprehended and charged in connection with the deaths of both Williams and Sincere. He was subsequently booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on two counts of first-degree murder. Alongside these serious charges, Jones also faced multiple drug charges. Following the arrest, the investigation continued to unfold.
