On a late summer evening in Shreveport, Louisiana, the life of 29-year-old Black / African American male Michael Rashard Coleman was tragically cut short. On August 26, 2020, just before 9:30 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting at the Woodlawn Terrace Apartments in the 700 block of West 68th Street. Arriving officers discovered Coleman, who had sustained gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported by the Shreveport Fire Department to Ochsner LSU Health Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The Shreveport Police Department's Homicide and Crime Scene Units immediately launched an investigation, collecting evidence and attempting to interview witnesses at the scene. Despite their efforts, investigators were initially unable to locate any individuals who would provide an account of the events that transpired. However, through the analysis of evidence gathered at the apartment complex, detectives were able to identify two suspects they believed were responsible for Coleman's death.
A few days later, on August 30, 2020, arrest warrants were secured for 20-year-old Albert Jones Jr. and 18-year-old Quinterrius Brown. Both men were charged with one count of second-degree murder, with their bonds set at $500,000 each. Jones was apprehended by homicide investigators on the same day the warrant was issued and was booked into the Shreveport City jail following an interview.
