In a tragic turn of events on a Tuesday evening in Baker, Louisiana, a young woman's life was cut short. Twenty-one-year-old Makayla Johnson was fatally shot on November 24, 2020, on Weston Avenue in an incident deemed a homicide by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Office. The cause of death was confirmed to be gunshot wounds.
The events leading to Johnson's death reportedly began with a confrontation.
Authorities believe that Justin McCrainey, 38, approached Johnson and accused her of assaulting a friend of his. An argument ensued between the two, which tragically escalated when McCrainey allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot Johnson.
Following the incident, law enforcement officials identified McCrainey as the suspect in the shooting. On the Friday following the fatal encounter, the Baker Police Department announced that they had apprehended and arrested Justin McCrainey in connection with the murder of Makayla Johnson.
