They were sitting on a porch on Bienville Avenue when the calm was shattered by the eruption of gunfire. In an instant, a senseless act of violence claimed Ilia’s life, an innocent bystander caught in a conflict not her own.
The barrage of bullets that ended Ilia's life also killed another individual, Santiago Rubio.
Investigators believe Rubio was the intended target of the assailants. They appealed to the public for assistance, releasing images of the vehicle believed to have been used by the two suspects, described as an older model Chevrolet Suburban.
