In the autumn of 2021, the life of Keeva Scatter, a 34-year-old Black transgender woman, was tragically cut short in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. On October 15, she was fatally shot, her body discovered just a block away from the sanctuary of her own home. In the immediate aftermath, initial media coverage failed to accurately represent who she was, misgendering and deadnaming her.
