In the early hours of a cold Tuesday morning in Boston, on November 25, 2008, the life of 18-year-old Hispanic/Latino male Sergio M. Escofet was tragically cut short. At approximately 1:06 AM, the sound of gunfire shattered the pre-dawn stillness on Fawndale Road. When police officers from the E-5 District arrived at the scene, they discovered a grim tableau. Two individuals had been struck by bullets. One victim, a 25-year-old, was rushed to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with injuries that were serious but not life-threatening. For Sergio Escofet, however, the outcome was far more devastating. He was transported to Brigham and Women's Hospital, where, despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his life-threatening injuries.
The Boston Police Department's Homicide Unit immediately launched an investigation into the fatal shooting.
