In the spring of 2022, a journey from Houston to Lake Charles, Louisiana, ended in tragedy for 18-year-old Jacob Yarbrough. On the night of Friday, March 25th, Yarbrough, a male, and his companion, 22-year-old James Malik Johnson, also from Houston, were involved in a fatal shooting near the intersection of Common and LaGrange streets. Both men were identified as the victims of what law enforcement authorities described as a double homicide.
The investigation into the deaths of Yarbrough
and Johnson revealed that the two had traveled to Lake Charles to conduct a drug transaction. It was during the course of this transaction that the situation escalated, resulting in the shooting that claimed both of their lives. In the immediate aftermath, the suspects fled the scene, leaving a grim discovery for law enforcement to uncover.
Following the incident, the Lake Charles Police Department launched an investigation into the double homicide. Their efforts led to the identification and subsequent arrest of two suspects in May of 2022. Zyterius Anderson, 19, and Jamarcus Miller, 20, were taken into custody and charged with two counts of second-degree murder for their alleged roles in the deaths of Yarbrough and Johnson. Both Anderson and Miller were booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center, with their bonds set at $1.8 million each. It was also noted that Miller had been arrested in connection with a separate shooting incident that had occurred in April of the same year.
