On a summer afternoon in Shreveport, Louisiana, the life of KaBrodrick Mitchell, a 28-year-old Black man, was brought to a violent end. On Tuesday, June 7, 2022, Shreveport police responded to reports of a shooting in the Martin Luther King Jr. neighborhood. The call came in at 3:15 p.m., sending officers to the 1700 block of Jamison Street.
When they arrived, police discovered a vehicle that had been struck multiple times by gunfire. Inside were three people.
KaBrodrick Mitchell, a resident of Hoyte Drive, had been shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene. A second person in the vehicle was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and a third individual was detained by authorities.
Homicide detectives immediately began an investigation. They processed the scene for evidence and canvassed the area for information. Early in the investigation, officials identified an orange Challenger as a possible vehicle of interest and appealed to the public for assistance. Shreveport Crime Stoppers offered a minimum reward of $2,000 for any information that would lead to an arrest in the case.
Three months later, the investigation led to an arrest. On September 3, 2022, police officers encountered 18-year-old Regge Williams in a stolen vehicle. Williams also had an active warrant for armed robbery. Following his arrest, multiple witnesses came forward with new information, and detectives were able to connect Williams to the fatal shooting of KaBrodrick Mitchell. On September 6, authorities announced that Williams had been charged with one count of second-degree murder. As of September 2022, the case was proceeding through the legal system.
