In the late summer of 2022, a life was tragically cut short on the streets of New Orleans. Kevin James August, a 29-year-old male, was found with gunshot wounds on August 22, 2022, in the 3600 block of General Taylor Street. The shooting occurred at approximately 12:19 p.m., and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kevin, the beloved son of Keith James Carter and Sharon Jude August, was a brother to Shalana August and MyKeisha Jones.
He was also a loving companion of six years to Daryne Smith. His death left a void in the lives of his family, including three aunts, two uncles, a nephew, and a great-nephew, along with a host of cousins and friends. A celebration of his life was held on August 31, 2022, with funeral services at Charbonnet Labat Glapion Funeral Home, followed by interment at Providence Memorial Park and Mausoleum.
In the wake of the shooting, the New Orleans Police Department launched a homicide investigation. Through their inquiries, detectives identified a person of interest, an unknown Black male who is believed to have information pertinent to the case. This individual is not currently wanted for the crime but is being sought for questioning. Investigators have indicated that he may go by the name 'Meatball2c' on social media.
The investigation into Kevin August's death remains open, and authorities have asked for the public's assistance in identifying and locating the person of interest. Crimestoppers has offered a reward of up to $2,500 for information that could lead to progress in the case. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the search for answers and justice for Kevin James August continues.
