On a warm Labor Day evening in New Orleans, the life of 32-year-old Delshawnique Taylor-Fluker was tragically cut short. The newlywed and mother of eight was fatally shot on September 5, 2022, at the intersection of General Meyer and Behrman avenues. Shortly after 9 p.m., she was brought to a local hospital by a private vehicle but sadly succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
Known affectionately as 'Goosey,' Delshawnique was remembered by loved ones as a vibrant and
kind-hearted woman who was dedicated to her family. She had recently married in December of the previous year and was raising her children, who ranged in age from 6 months to 14 years old at the time of her death. Her cousin, Geni Navarro, expressed the profound loss, stating, 'To not have your mother, the person you're supposed to be able to turn to, go to at any given moment.. some of these kids will never be able to experience it.'
The New Orleans Police Department quickly launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. Investigators began the process of gathering evidence and seeking information from the public to identify the person or persons responsible for this violent act and to understand the motive behind it. Friends and family shared their grief and shock on social media, with one cousin posting, 'U left me too soon cuz… I am in shock...I can't believe it but its true.” Another tribute called her 'one of a kind.'
Despite the initial investigation and public appeals for information, there have been no subsequent announcements from the New Orleans Police Department regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in connection with the murder of Delshawnique Taylor-Fluker. The case remains an open and ongoing investigation.
