In the early morning hours of Friday, September 30, 2022, the life of David Washington Jr., a 31-year-old male, was tragically cut short. Deputies from the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office were dispatched to Woodland Drive in the Bunn Hood neighborhood of Donaldsonville, Louisiana, around 6:30 a.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Washington inside a vehicle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Although not originally from Donaldsonville,
Washington had been residing in the neighborhood at the time of his death. The scene was marked by the presence of numerous shell casings, indicating the violent nature of the attack. Sources reported that dozens of rounds had been fired. At the time, authorities had not identified a motive or any potential suspects in the immediate aftermath of the shooting.
Months later, a breakthrough in the case was announced. On Tuesday, March 14, 2023, the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office made an arrest in connection with the homicide. Jermaine Duperclay, a 29-year-old from Gramercy, was identified as the suspect. Investigators learned that Duperclay was already incarcerated in an East Baton Rouge jail on unrelated charges and subsequently booked him in connection with Washington's death.
