John May, a 34-year-old male of unknown ethnicity, was a member of Bugs Moran's crime gang in Chicago. He was one of the seven victims of the infamous St. Valentine's Day Massacre, which occurred on February 14, 1929. The massacre took place at a garage on North Clark Street in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago.
On that fateful morning, four unidentified men, two of whom were disguised as police officers, lined up the seven men against a wall and opened fire with Thompson
submachine guns. The attack was believed to be orchestrated by Al Capone's gang as part of an ongoing conflict with Moran's gang for control over organized crime in the city during Prohibition.
Despite the brutality of the attack, no one was ever charged with the crime. The public outcry over the massacre eventually led to increased efforts by the federal government to bring Capone to justice. The case remains one of the most notorious unsolved crimes in American history.
