Nelson Smith, a 40-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on January 21, 1986, in Chicago, Illinois. Officer Smith was off duty at the time of his death, which occurred during an attempted armed robbery. The incident took place at approximately 9:10 PM in front of 61 East 29th Street.
